My Mama's Slaw and The Burger Bar

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 | 5:10 AM

Growing up, when our family got together for a cookout we always had slaw with our burgers and dogs.  Notice one thing here, I said, "Slaaww" not Coleslaw.  Most folks around here know that when one says slaw, we mean cabbage with mayo and a few - very few - other ingredients.  Here's my Mama's recipe. It's creamy with just the right mix of flavors.

Mama's Slaw
1 head of white cabbage
1 cup good mayo
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Shred cabbage with a box grater or food processor.  Mix all other ingredients together and pour over cabbage.  Taste and adjust the salt and pepper to your liking.  Chill in fridge until ready to serve.

With the weather turning warmer it was time to grill out.  So, last weekend, I grabbed all the goodies needed to top burgers, made some baked beans and set up the bar.  Everyone got to pile on their favorite toppings and I had lots of napkins on hand!
Mustards, mayo, pickles, onion, tomatoes and ketchup - YUM!
We all grabbed a plate and worked our way down the bar...the burger bar!
